Support for early-career researchers

In line with previous IPM conferences, support for conference attendance will be provided to early-career researchers. If you would like to be considered for funding, please indicate as such on the submission form.

Please note: PhOMO will soon start charging membership fees. Being a PhOMO member is necessary for presenting at IPM 5. Membership rates will be: faculty $50, postdocs $35, students $20, subvention for those with limited funds $5. Information about membership will soon be provided by PhOMO. FAQs

1. Will IPM5 be hybrid/allow zoom presentations?

IPM5 is planned as a fully in-person event. We will consider zoom for emergency and/or accessibility issues. PhOMO’s hybrid approach has been to split format between its 2 alternating biennial meetings: IPM (in-person) and Early Career Researcher (online).

2. What does the available support for early career researchers look like?

A set of early career researchers will have their room and board covered by the conference. We have a block of rooms available (each with private bath) in a Purdue dormitory on campus. Meals, with dietary accommodations, will also be provided throughout the conference. This option helps early career researchers avoid the financial hassle of paying upfront and submitting reimbursement, but it does require attendees to fund their own travel to the conference.

3. How do I get to West Lafayette, Indiana?

The closest major airports are Indianapolis (IND, one hour away) and Chicago (ORD, 2.5 hours away). There is also an airport on Purdue campus (LAF)! It’s small, but has 3 flights to Chicago O’Hare and back each day.

There are shuttle companies that run between both IND and ORD airports and Purdue campus, for about $70 each way: Reindeer Shuttle and Lafayette Limo. Uber and Lyft are also options.

There is also a Greyhound/FlixBus station and Amtrak.

4. What are my options for lodging in the area?

We will have two housing options available through the conference, at different price points: hotel rooms in the Purdue Memorial Union, and dormitory rooms (with private bath) in a dorm on campus. There are also several other hotels in the area, as well as AirBNBs. More details on rates and how to reserve will be provided once program decisions have been made.
